f.r.e.e. - Flexible Registration and Evaluation Engine
0.8.1
Welcome to the Flexible Registration and Evaluation Engine (f.r.e.e.). F.r.e.e. is an open source sofware system and is published under the GNU public license. Currently under active development, f.r.e.e. allows the composition, evaluation and optimization of (registration) algorithms. F.r.e.e. uses the Insight Toolkit (itk) for basic image processing and registration tasks.
Originally the idea behind f.r.e.e. was to create a framework and tools to ease the establishing, testing and comparing of registration algorithms. Furthermore it was supposed to offer the possibility to be used as a foundation for registration tasks in any (medical) application.
A very brief characterization of f.r.e.e. would be: A framework that allows the dynamic integration and combination of ideas/components as well as their application to single cases or a set of cases via XML-based setup files. Also it is a collection of tools – built around this framework –, that should assist from development to deployment. Therefore f.r.e.e. offers tools e.g. for the execution of setups, the evaluation and the optimization of setups for user defined tasks.
The focus of f.r.e.e. is on the field of image registration, but some of the tools (e.g. setup optimization) can be used for other tasks as well.
f.r.e.e. is published under the GNU public license and can be obtained under http://www.klinikum.uni-heidelberg.de/mi/free.
In the following the basic concepts of f.r.e.e. and the tools will be introduced:
